DOG LAB

In Comparative Cognition, we examined the similarities and differences between human and non-human animals. We conducted cognitive experiments with dogs and through the experience learned how hard it is to conduct experiments. Every Thursday my team and I would face the challenge of controlling variables in our experiment, but given that we also got to hang out with dogs every Thursday, no one complained too much.

Co-Authorship

One of my professors was asked to write a response article to a recently published article that questioned undergraduate programs’ efforts to spark student interest in the classroom. Myself and three classmates assisted in writing a response with her which was recently published in the psychology journal Frontiers In Psychology.

scientific Research as a form of storytelling

Conducting scientific research in tandem with user-centered revealed some key insights. I loved both, but the user-centered process was more enjoyable. Science is hard because precision is crucial. But science is necessary and the lack of understanding around it is concerning. I have struggled to communicate out findings in both styles of research, but I have found that visuals make data concise and accessible. In the remainder of the year I aim to develop my visual storytelling skills and will ultimately be using those skills to communicate out complex scientific data.
